I was not pleased to see that you'd added a long quote from me on the subject of National Socialism. The quote was taken from a long, rambling Usenet article that I'd posted in which I responded to a request from Dr Gorski to make my views on Nazism clear. It outlined what I saw as the 'pros' and what I saw as the 'cons'. By taking one of the 'pros' and ignoring the 'cons' you give your readers the impression that I'm some kind of rabid Nazi. Had you taken the time to read the entire post you might have seen that on balance I was critical of Nazism. I have condemned its philosophy, its leadership, its methods. In a debate at St Andrews University in 1982 I stated in front of the then chairman of the National Front: 'I condemn Nazism'. I have publicly told 'Sandra Huber' to 'get a brain'. My point was, like most of the great 'ologies' it had a good side: its opposition to communism, its idealism. This was what inspired a whole nation. I was disappointed in your misleading post largely because you'd spoken out on Usenet against 'dirty' practices and I rather thought that you were above that sort of thing. I have always tried to play fair with you and I certainly have done nothing to deserve that sort of smear. I am not one of the 'Jew bashing' brigade. I am therefore rather perplexed to find myself on the receiving end of such a nasty smear. Now you have every right to mislead your readers if you so wish and those of us who wander into a nest of vipers must put up with getting bitten from time to time. However, if you have to build your cause (and I'm not sure what that cause is) on that sort of misrepresentation and dishonesty perhaps you should consider whether it is a cause in which you really believe. I request that you do the decent thing and, if you're going to quote me, quote the entire post. (Dr) David E Michael
